Most international flights land in Taipei Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) which is situated 40km (25 miles) southwest of Taipei. Travelers in Pacific Asia may also have choices of city-flights (from mainland China, Seoul-Gimpo, Tokyo-Haneda) arriving at the downtown Taipei Songshan Airport (TSA).

The simplest way to get to Academia Sinica from Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport is by Taxi. A more economical way is by bus or Metro to Taipei, and then by a Taxi to Academia Sinica. Limo company clert will meet you at the Custom exit at your flight arrival time. The fares leaving airpot (with a surcharge for tax) to Academia Sinica or nearby hotels are TWD 1400 (3-seat car) and TWD 1830 (7-seat van). The return fares to Airport are TWD 1290 (3-seat car) and TWD 1620 (7-seat van).

Taxi
Taxis queue outside the Arrival Halls of the Airport Terminals. Airport taxis charge by meter plus a surcharge. Typical fare to Taipei downtown is around TWD 1,200 (~US$40) to Academia Sinica is around TWD 1,600 (~US$52). The journey takes about one hour.

Airport Metro
The Airport Metro Express runs every half an hour to Taipei Main station, The fare is TWD 160, and the ride take 35 minuits. The Corridor connecting to the Taipei Metro blue line is a long walk of about 10 minuits.
The Metro Blue line from Taipei Main station to Nangang Exhib. Center (terminal station) takes about 20 min, for a fare of TWD 30. Take a bus or Taxi at Nangang Exhib. Hall, to continue on to Academia Sinica.

Airport Bus
Several bus companies provide frequent services between Taoyuan International Airport and Taipei city. We suggest the following:
  • Kuokung(1843) to Nankang Station, Nankang Exhibition Center,
    TWD 145/ one-way, 80 min ride; serves every hour, please find the schedules departing from Airport / Nankang station.
    The stops at Nankang Exhibition Center or Nangang station (terminal) are very close (1.5 km) to Academia Sinica. You may continue on with a bus or a taxi (fare is about TWD 100) to Academia Sinica.
  • Kuokung(1840) to Songshan Airport ,
    TWD 140/ one-way, 50 min ride; serves every 20 min from 6 AM to midnight.
    Songshan is a small city airport. From there you may take MRT brown line to Nankang Exhib. Center, or a taxi (fare is about TWD 300) Academia Sinica.

    • Local transportation
    Public transport in Taipei is frequent, the Taipei Metro system (MRT) and local buses run till midnight.

    Academia Sinica is 1.5 km away from the terminal stop (Nankang Exhibition Center) of Brown and Blue Lines. You will need to purchase a token at the entrance. Each station has a service booth to provide information and help.

    Buses to Academia Sinica are every few minutes, and the fare is TWD 15 (coin only, no change). Please wave to the driver for a stop. You will notice the campus and main gate before arriving at the Academia Sinica bus stop.
